Top o’ the morning to ya

It’s your favourite meet-er and greet-er here and I’ve got an important message to share with you all. My recent holiday to Portugal was just the ticket – lounging by the pool sipping Pina Coladas (my favourite) with a side of sausage rolls but corr blimey it was hot! I want to share my top tips for keeping your animal friends cool this summer and avoiding heat stroke – (especially if you have a squashed face like me)…

  1. On hot and humid days keep your pets in a well ventilated, cool area - whether that be inside or in a shaded area outside
  2. Always provide plenty of fresh water to drink. My human sometimes puts ice cubes in the water bowl to keep it cool for longer. (I prefer to think of it as an alternative to apple bobbing!)
  3. Paddling pool – as well as drinking water it is helpful to splash around to stay cool
  4. Never leave your animal friend unattended in a parked car – even for “just a minute”.  Leaving windows partially rolled down will NOT help
  5. Limit outdoor activity to early morning and late evening when temperatures are lower and always take water with you

Signs to look out for:

  • Heavy panting
  • Loss of energy
  • Weakness
  • Stumbling
  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive drooling

Heat stroke is no joke my friends! It can lead to a cascade of very serious conditions that can result in brain damage, organ failure and death.
